Mexican baseball to make history in Tucson this weekend

Baseball is back in Tucson this weekend for a historic occasion, as the Mexican Pacific League is playing its first regular season series in the United States.

The International Series runs today through Sunday at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium, where the Yaquis of Ciudad Obregón will face off against the Águilas of Mexicali.

The event is organized by Mexican Baseball Fiesta, a Tucson company founded more than a decade ago by Hermosillo native Francisco Gámez, whose vision was to promote the sport and bring the spectacle, flavor and festivity of Mexican baseball to America.

Tonight’s game starts at 7:05 p.m., with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. and a pre-game show featuring Chuy Vega Jr.

Saturday’s game starts at 6:05 p.m. Gates open at 4:45 p.m. and the pre-game show will feature La Poderosa “Noche Poderosa de Beisbol.”

Gates for the final game open Sunday at 3:45 p.m., with the game set to start at 5:05 p.m. It will feature a pre-game concert with Grupo La Kaña.

The Yaquis will be the home team and play along the 3rd base side. Tickets are $30 for box seats and $20 for general admission.

Kids under 6 enter for free, and tickets for children ages 6 through 16 and seniors cost $10.

Tickets can be purchased at each game or online, but special ticket prices for kids and seniors are only available at the box starting from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
